Wales cross fingers for Lions prop

Monday, February 08, 2010, 21:00

WALES are hopeful that Gethin Jenkins will be fit for Saturday's clash against Scotland.

But his Lions Test front-row colleague, Scarlets hooker Matthew Rees, is battling to play any part in this season's tournament.

Both players missed the 30-17 defeat against England — Jenkins with calf muscle trouble and Rees due to a recurrent groin problem.

Wales hope Jenkins can play a full part in training on Thursday.

"It is looking good," said Wales team physiotherapist Mark Davies.

Rees, though, could require surgery to resolve his injury and has no chance of being involved this week.

Davies added: "We need to allow it to settle down. It is about what is the best option for Matthew."
