Lamont raring to get out of the Scarlet blocks

Thursday, June 25, 2009, 08:05

NEW Scarlets signing Sean Lamont is looking to put two years of injury frustration behind him by helping the region in their own rehabilitation this season.

The 37-times capped Scotland wing has been the Scarlets' showcase signing of the summer, a powerful runner with a proven try-scoring record for club and county.

And having spent the best part of two seasons at Northampton on the recovery trail from serious knee and hamstring problems, Lamont is now straining at the leash to make an immediate impact for his new side.

"I have settled in really well so far and am looking forward to meeting up with the rest of the boys when they come back in," said Lamont, Scotland's player of the season in 2006-07.

"This is a fresh start for me down here. The last two years have been massively frustrating."

While a much-improved European showing will be again the main focus down west, Lamont is also looking forward to a return to Magners League rugby, having spent two years with Glasgow before his move to the Saints.

"There is a bit more space, a bit more attack in the Magners League. The Premiership can be a bit stifling with the 'must not lose' mentality," added the 28-year-old.
