Kiwi prop poised for Scarlets exit

Saturday, June 27, 2009, 08:00

SCARLETS prop Kees Meeuws is set to return to New Zealand, the Evening Post understands.

The 34-year-old prop still has another year left on his contract, but Meeuws and the Scarlets have agreed for the All Black to head home early.

Meeuws, who played 42 Tests for New Zealand, signed from French club Castres on a two-year deal at the start of last season, but missed the majority of the campaign after rupturing an Achilles tendon against Munster in November.

He returned for the final match of the season against Ulster, but there has been speculation over his future ever since the Scarlets announced the arrival of another tight-head prop, Wales international Rhys Thomas from the Dragons.
